Agreements allow you to establish trading terms with your customers, automating the collection of payment (via direct debit)  for future orders and purchases on agreed terms.  Although agreements can be created through our API we've seen many of our clients prefer a more customised and personal touch when negotiating terms with their customers, opting to use our UI. 

The following step by step guide will show you how to set up both

  • An agreement with a Split contact, and
  • An agreement to anyone from our UI

But first, let's identify the difference between the two: 

Agreement to a Split contact:  You will select this option when creating an agreement if the customer you sending an agreement is a Split user and is already added as a contact in your contacts.  This creates a 1-time agreement to be used specifically for that contact. 

Agreement to anyone:  As it sounds, this function allows you to create an agreement with absolutely anyone.  Set the trading terms that your comfortable with, and then send this agreement to as many customers as you like, Split user or not.  Each party that accepts will establish an agreement between themselves and you on the set terms.  

Let's get started

Proposing an agreement to a Split Contact:

  1. Login to your Split Dashboard
  2. Go to: Agreements found on the left menu bar
  3. Click on Propose Agreement button found at the top right corner
  4. Select To a Split Contact
  5. Select Contact from drop-down 
  6. Enter in Terms as agreed
  7. Click Propose Agreement

Your agreement will be sent to the Split contact that you selected for approval, once approved your payments will flow freely according to the terms of the agreement. 

note: If you would like to set up an unlimited agreement with your customer then leave the Terms section blank.  This will pre-approve all Payment Requests regardless of value and frequency.  

Proposing an agreement To anyone:

  1. Go to: Agreements found on the left menu bar
  2. Click on Propose Agreements button found at the top right corner
  3. Select To anyone
  4. Enter a Title that will serve as a reference for future use and for your customer
  5. Set your Terms
  6. Click Add open agreement

Retrieve your new Agreement to anyone link:

  1. Go to Agreements
  2. Scroll down to Open Agreements
  3. Select View Link from the agreement, you'd like to use
  4. Copy link
  5. Either paste or embed it to send to the customer.  

Once a customer agrees to your agreement they will be added to your Contacts, you'll be notified by email, and you can start trading freely.
